Next Meeting - June 19, 2013

Live Model @ Art Walk

The live model sketching at last night's Yreka Art Walk was fun and a learning experience for all. Two people from our group showed up--Nancy and myself--and we spent some time drawing. Our model was the lovely Debbie and she did a great job not only modeling but hawking the sketching session to passers-by on the street. Next Meeting - May 29, 2013

Our group met last week and we exchanged our 12-page blank sketchbooks again and will complete one page before our next meeting when we will exchange books again. After the meeting, we'll head someplace TBA to sketch.

Next Meeting - May 15, 2013

 Well a lot has happened since the last post. On May 1 we had our meeting at the Brickhouse, exchanged our sketchbooks and marveled over what people had done so far. Great! Then we headed over to Greenhorn Park and spent a pleasant morning sketching, being serenaded by ducks and geese. It was great to get out after being cooped up all winter!

 Yesterday we met at the statue in Montague and then headed over to the Shasta Valley Wildlife Area. Unfortunately in our haste to start our day of sketching we left a few minutes early and missed one of the members who wanted to join us. Sorry Cynthia!!! So we will be scheduling a special 'make-up' event of Cynthia's choosing. Stay tuned here for details. We had a lovely day out sketching with boaters and fishermen on Trout Lake. We can't wait to go back and try some other locations in the Wildlife Area. If you have any suggestions for places to go to sketch, please let us know so we can put them on the calendar.

We have been asked to create a display for the Yreka Art Walk showcasing our group and its work. Work is in progress and the final display will be posted here for all to see. I hope you will come to the Art Walk on Friday,  May 17, 2013 in downtown Yreka. The event starts at 5 p.m. and continues until 8 p.m. Rumor has it that a live model sketching session will be happening at the old Yreka Seed and Feed building (across from the Brickhouse) that evening and it is free all who want to participate. Will post more details here when they are available.

Next Meeting - May 1, 2013

Our group met last week and shared our work we are doing for International Fake Journal Month. Lots of interesting things going on there. We exchanged our 12-page blank sketchbooks and will complete one page before a short meeting next week (Wednesday, May 1 @ 10 a.m. at the Brickhouse) when we will exchange books again. After the meeting, we'll head over to Greenhorn Park to sketch--our first outside outing this year -- YEA!

Next Meeting - April 17, 2013

We had some interesting portraits shown at our last meeting. Everyone agreed that more work was needed! For this month we decided to do a 'pass-around' sketchbook. We will make (or purchase) a small 12-page sketchbook that we will label with a theme. Then we'll do the first drawing in the book. Bring your book to the next meeting and we will exchange books and each make a drawing in the book we receive.

The next meeting will be on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at 10 a.m. at the Brickhouse Bakery and Pizzeria (313 W. Miner Street, Yreka, CA). We have changed our meeting schedule to monthly during the winter and will resume weekly on location sketchouts when the weather improves. All ages and skill levels welcome.
